Purpose

Back pain is a major problem in the United States with countless emergency room visits every year. The emotional, physical, and healthcare costs are tremendous. Image-guided spine procedures can be successful in diagnosing and relieving the source of severe back pain. This educational poster will illustrate key learning points in needle manipulation techniques, basic relevant anatomy, general procedure principles, and pitfalls of epidural steroid injection, facet joint injection, and selective nerve block procedures.

Results

Learning Objectives

1. learn anatomy of relevant region of spine
2. learn basic "how to's" including the procedure itself, patient selection, needle selection, medication, etc
3. learn indications and contraindications of procedure
4. become aware of possible complications and pitfalls of procedure

Conclusion

Image-guided spine procedures can be successful in diagnosing and relieving the source of severe back pain. This educational poster highlights the relevant principles, anatomy, techniques and pitfalls of epidural steroid injection, facet joint injection, and selective nerve block procedures.
