Purpose
Spinal MRI is the imaging modality of choice to evaluate spinal pathology. Frequently, incidental extra-spinal abnormalities are detected that are clinically relevant and may even explain the patient’s presenting symptoms. In some cases, these finding led to unexpected diagnoses with significant morbidity and mortality. A systematic review of common and uncommon extra-spinal pathology will be presented with a brief description of the MRI characteristics.
Methods & Materials
We present a series of incidental extra-spinal findings from routine MRIs of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spine which we have seen over the last the past 5 years.
